At these festivals, the Film "Looking for a Thrill" directed by Braden King (Dutch Harbor), will have it's European premiere. "Looking for a Thrill" is a collection of interviews with musicians who inspire, talking about a musical moment that inspired them. "I wanted to do something that speaks to what motivates myself and I think is part of the creative inspiration of those I admire. I hope this collection of stories will bring that point home as well as make a really nice document"- Bettina Richards, Thrill Jockey Records. The label, which is currently in one of it's busiest periods ever, will see Autumn releases from John Parish, Trans Am, Sue Garner, The Sea & Cake, Tortoise, Catherine Irwin and Nobukazu Takemura. Autumn tours are planned for Trans Am, National Trust and The Sea & Cake. Bettina Richards, who started the label 10 years ago, will also be on tour with the bands. BANDS CONFIRMED FOR ALL EUROPEAN SHOWS: Tortoise - Highly influential Chicago band, currently working on new material with an ep due for release at the end of the year. Classic second album "Millions Now Living Will Never Die" is set for an autumn reissue on Thrill Jockey. (A) The Sea & Cake - "Look closely and you'll detect traces of that classic pop arranging characteristic of the late '60s and early '70s, but ultimately The Sea And Cake are just making timeless, faultless pop music" - Mojo, November 2000. A new album is due in October. (B) Bobby Conn - Badly Drawn Boy has been citing Chicago resident Bobby as his favourite artist of the last few years. Bobby is set to play a rare solo karaoke show this time; earlier full band shows received rave reviews. He is currently working on new material, due out next year. Q have described his music as being "as dazzling, dark and daft as the man himself". (C) BANDS CONFIRMED FOR SEVERAL SHOWS OF THE FESTIVAL TOUR: Radian - Experimental electronic trio from Vienna, set to release their new album on Thrill Jockey in August. Some may be familiar with their Mego/Rhiz releases. Dub influenced, analog synth playing , free drumming - a mind blowing new music experience... (4) Chicago Underground Duo - Electronic influenced freeform jazz music courtesy of cornet player Rob Mazurek and percussionist Chad Taylor. "With its punky attitude, infectious rhythms and bursts of freeform energy, it's a vision of jazz that will appeal to rock and techno fans alike." - The Telegraph, March 2002. (5) Trans Am - Described by the Guardian as "the missing link between Kraftwerk and ZZ Top", this Washington DC trio play a mind blowing fusion of Krautrock and new wave electonic synth sounds. Current album TA is due for the remix treatment, by Prefuse 73, Dan the Automater, Dabrye, A Grape Dope ( John Herndon) and Jonathan K, to be released in September. (6) Brokeback - This is an outlet for Tortoise, Eleventh Dream Day and Pullman bassist Doug McCombs to explore different musical avenues, with a focus on rhythm and texture. Last year's Morse Code in the Modern Age: Across the Americas album saw him collaborate with members of Calexico, Stereolab and Yo La Tengo. (7) Eleventh Dream Day - Alternative rock band formed in Chicago in 1983, they have released two albums for Thrill Jockey - 1997's Eighth and Stalled Parade, released in 2000. Drummer Janet Bean also plays in Freakwater and bassist Doug McCombs is a member of Tortoise. (8) National Trust - Of debut album Dekkagar, The Times wrote "the undulating rhythms and blitzed harmonies suggest an unlikely hybrid of Curtis Mayfield with Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. But, again, these.....songs harbour so much more: sunshine, melancholy, cosmic grandeur and an unusually vivid sexual pull. An instant classic." Making their UK debut this autumn. (9) Howe Gelb - Mastermind of Giant Sand… (10) Freakwater - Most charming "new country" band from Chicago (11) THRILL JOCKEY RECORDS kick off 10th Anniversary Celebrations - "Looking For A Thrill" 15.09.
